Narcissists apparently are virtually incapable of spending time alone. As with most issues involving narcissists, this is a somewhat complicated matter.
In general, particularly during the idealization phase, narcissists effectively present as being………
•able to stand on their own emotional two feet
•relatively confident
•relatively independent
•relatively decisive and steadfast
•somewhat grounded
However, despite the outward appearance of stability and relative emotional wholeness, nothing could be further from the truth.
What You See Is Not What You Get

•how frightening it is for narcissist to contemplate an attention gap
Based on a myriad of narcissist/NT relationship accounts, it appears that narcissists literally can not spend any time alone whatsoever.
In order to put the severity of the narcissist’s ego weakness and fragility issues into perspective, it should be pointed out that many narcissists unabashedly state that their every waking moment is devoted to obtaining attention.
If a narcissist is not given unremitting attention, the narcissist will experience psychological annihilation. Although the term psychological annihilation sounds unduly extreme, there is anecdotal evidence of attention-deprived narcissists…
